Custom Order Surfboards

Custom Surfboards Built the Traditional Way

Hand-shaped in San Diego since 1959, each G&S custom board is built around your waves, your style, and the feel you want under your feet—crafted with the experience, precision, and finish that define a truly custom board.

Timeless design. Hand-shaped craftsmanship.

With four experienced shapers, hundreds of proven templates, and our own factory, we build everything from a trusted everyday rider to a complete custom quiver—each board shaped with intention for your waves, your style, and the details that matter most.

Most of our boards are 100% hand-shaped by craftsmen with deep roots in surfboard design. We use polyurethane foam from U.S. Blanks and glass each board with two layers on the deck and one on the bottom for a strong, time-tested build. Fin options include Single Bahne box, FCS plugs, FCS II, Futures, or glass-on fins. For color, you can keep it clean and classic or go fully custom with airbrush, resin color, and resin pinlines.

Custom details we will shape around you

To provide an accurate quote, we will ask a few straightforward questions about how and where you surf, what you ride now, and the details you want built into your board.

·        Your height, weight, and experience level

·        The waves you surf and where you usually surf

·        What you are riding now and what you would like to change

·        Your preferred board length

·        Your preferred fin setup and number of fins

·        Your preferred finish: sanded, acrylic, wet-sanded gloss, or gloss and polish

·        Whether you want airbrush color, pinlines, or a resin tint

From quote to finished board

1.       We start with a quote based on your board length, model, fin setup, finish, and color choices. If you need shipping, we can arrange packing and delivery as well. Shipping within the continental U.S. typically runs between $250 and $275 including packing.

2.       To place your order, we require a 50% deposit or $500, whichever is greater. We accept Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Venmo, wire transfers, cash, and checks. You can place your deposit online, over the phone, or in person at the G&S factory. That deposit is refundable until the board is shaped, unless you have requested a highly customized stringer configuration.

3.       Once the order is confirmed, we select and order the proper blank based on your board size and the stringer or stringer configuration you want. Our blanks come from U.S. Blanks.

4.       The blank usually arrives within about a week and then moves into the shaping queue. If needed, your shaper may reach out to confirm final details, share photos, or meet with you before shaping begins.

5.       From there, the board moves into glassing. Because we shape and glass in our own factory, we oversee the work from start to finish. Up to seven craftsmen may work on your board through lamination, hot coat, fin installation or glass-on fins, sanding, and your selected final finish.

6.       When the board is complete, we give it a final inspection to make sure it meets our standards. Then it is ready for pickup or shipping.

7.       Most custom boards take about 6 to 8 weeks to complete, though timing can vary based on your options and the season. Spring and summer are typically our busiest times of year.
